The evil that is cancer…

We just recently had to say our final goodbyes to my father and a dear family friend due to the evil that is cancer. I quiver when I hear the word cancer because it is the most evil, painful, long-drawn illness that I have ever witnessed. Unfortunately, I have family members and friends that have been affected; my mother had breast cancer (that she won the fight and battle over but lost her life to stroke), a dear family friend in Sweden was diagnosed with lung cancer a few years ago that she miraculously survived, my father who lost his fight to stomach cancer a few months ago, and another dear family friend that just lost his fight as well to lung cancer. When we didn’t think it could get any worse, we received the news that Brian’s uncle is struggling lung cancer as well.

It really punches you in the stomach and takes your breath away… it makes you think about how short life is and you never know who and when it will strike next time. It also makes me think and analyze the reason for so many cases of cancer. Is there something that is increasing the risks of cancer in our everyday lives or is it all left to genetics? I believe it has to do with both. I am hoping for a cure in the future and was happy to hear about the HPV vaccine for girls. At least there is some light at the end of the tunnel. Please visit the National Cancer Institue for more information and donations.
