Book: Gift Horse: A Lakota Story by S.D. Nelson

As most of you know, I love to read books and I am fortunate to have a very wonderful job where I am constantly surrounded by new books. The North Dakota selection for the 2008-2009 National Book Festival is this children book by Dakotan S.D. Nelson. It is a great Native American kids book with wonderful illustrations. I can’t wait to read this book to Linn. She loves horses and she will truly enjoy the bright drawings. North Dakota Facts and Figures…..

North Dakota is bordered by three states – South Dakota, Minnesota, and Montanta; and two Canadian provinces – Manitoba and Saskatchewan. Lewis and Clark spent the winter of 1804-1805 at Forth Mandan, near Washburn. That is where they met Sakakawea, who helped guide them to the Pacific Ocean. Theodore Roosevelt National Park is named for the 26th President, Theodore Roosevelt, who had two ranches in the North Dakota Badlands. Sitting Bull, a Hunkpapa Lakota Sioux chief, spent much of his life in North Dakota, until his remains were moved in 1953, was buried near Fort Yates. Linn 12 month check-up

I totally forgot to write about Linn’s 12 month well-baby check up about a month ago. She is getting bigger and bigger every day. This time around, she weighs 28 lbs (12.7 kg) and is 32.5 inches (82.6 cm) tall. She is off the charts and the doctor said that either they miscalculated her weight and height at the last appointment or she is going to be a real tall lady. According to her growth chart, she is following her curve so the doctor is certain that she is just going to be tall. She had one vaccination done [ ... ]
