Brian and Lena met in 2002 at the Florida Everglades Holiday Park. Lena was a student at the university and had her friend from Sweden visiting and they decided to go for an airboat ride in the Everglades. Brian had just been honorably and medically discharged from the US Coast Guard and was working as an air-boat captain at the time. Brian was their designated tour guide on this day. After the tour, they sat and had lunch at the diner and started talking for hours. They met up at the pub later that night called the “Quarterdeck.”

The local radio station held a contest that night and Brian and Lena decided to try their luck. Lena won two movie tickets to the movie “John Q” and Brian won two basketball tickets for a game that upcoming Saturday. Brian and Lena went on their first date that Saturday and have been practically inseparable ever since. They were married 6 months later and moved to Lena’s home country of Sweden to care for her ill father at the time. They lived in Sweden for about 2 1/2 years until they moved back to Brian’s home state of North Dakota in 2005. Since then, Brian and Lena have welcomed their precious baby daughter, Linn. This summer they will celebrate their 8th wedding anniversary.
